Getting to Tokyo:

http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/

Buses to Tokyo from Miyagai (all sites in Japanese):

http://www.businesstravel.co.jp - gone up to ï¿¥3,300 to Shinjuku (day buses)and also night buses to Shinjuku and Tokyo station. This site appears to not be working at present (July 8th 2008)

http://www.tobu-bus.com/pc/index.php - all over the place but doesn't seem to do Sendai - Narita any more!

http://www.jrbustohoku.co.jp/highway_img/masamune2.html - ï¿¥6210, Shinjuku (day and night buses)

http://www.orion-tour.co.jp or http://www.orion-tour.co.jp/english (english pages), from ï¿¥3500, Shinjuku, Tokyo Station, Disney, Airport (overnight)- can be booked through HIS.

http://www.busde-tabi.com/ - overnighters, but seems to have stopped doing Sendai. Site is in Japanese and you can pay through the green machines at conbinis.

http://www.489.fm/ - Sakura buses - cheap and to many places, not just Tokyo (Japanese)

http://www.hotdog.co.jp/bus/info/news/cam_tohoku.htm - buses to and from all over the place!

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2366_sendai.html - details in English on different buses and links to the booking sites (which may be only Japanese)

Buses can be booked with HIS (and possibly other travel agents) too. Prices will vary.

From Tokyo to Narita:

The Kesei line from Nippori to Narita town (or vice versa) only costs 750 yen and takes 1hour 15 mins. Nippori is only 1 stop away from Ueno. It's 1000ï¿¥ to the airport itself.

The Keisei Skyliner takes about 50 minutes from Narita (airport) to Ueno (some also head into Shinjuku) and costs around 2500ï¿¥ each way. To Tokyo station there is the Narita Express, run by JR. It costs about 5000ï¿¥ and takes less time.

Shinkansen:

Train times/fares enquiries (not booking) http://www.hyperdia.com

Domestic flights:

Can be booked 2 months in advance, sometimes for less than the shink. Look out for special deals - http://www.ana.co.jp/eng/index.html.

Sendai Airport:

http://www.pref.miyagi.jp/kutai/ENGLISH/top-english.htm - for general information.

http://www.sdj-airport.com/flight/page3.html - for flight information. It can often work out cheaper once you account for shink prices.

CA - Air China - Beijing; Dalian; Shanghai

CO - Continental - Guam

CZ - China Southern - Changchun

FW - Ibex - Osaka

JC - Jal Express - Osaka; Sapporo

Train - Take the train towards Shiroishi 4 stops south to Tatekoshi. The fare is ï¿¥230 (but no ticket gate at the station...) There's a bus stop just outside the train station on the east side, on the other side (west) is a Daily Yamazaki. The bus runs every 30 mins and costs 310ï¿¥. Cheaper and shorter than the Sendai direct method. They are working on extending the train line to the airport and it is scheduled to open spring/summer 2006.

Bus - The Sendai Airport shuttle bus leaves quite frequently from Sendai station. It runs every 30 - 60 mins. Fare 910ï¿¥. Walk out of the station (West exit, so you're staring at LOFT), walk over and down the stairs to the left to the bus platforms. There's a ticket window there to buy tickets.

Coming from the airport, there's a machine to buy tickets near the exit doors. Catch bus from the post marked for SENDAI Station. The bus only stops once Sendai station, possibly Nagamachi area.

Airport limousine bus - http://www.kotsu.city.sendai.jp/e/bus/airport.htm

Bus timetable - http://www.donto.co.jp/timetable/timeindex.html (Japanese only site)

Car - Sendai airport is actually in Natori. Follow the Route 4 down through Sendai and keep going south. There is a sign for the turn off to the airport. It's a left turn by a big overpass (which is under construction and goes nowhere). Follow this road straight all the way to the aiport, where the road ends. If you're just poppping in for a few minutes you can park in front of the terminal. Otherwise, there is a short-term car park right in front of the terminal that's only a few hundred yen.

Nagoya Airport

The train from the main Nagoya train station to the airport is on the Meitetsu line. It operates an express service for ï¿¥350 more than the regular ï¿¥850. It's easy to find as there are signs in the station with an airplane drawn on it to give you info as to which track the train is on. The train lands you in the terminal itself and all you do is come out and go through the turnstiles and you are ready to check in.
